3 Effective Ways To Leverage Other Peoples Audiences to Expand Your Reach
Friend, are you tired of hustling on social media, feeling like you're talking to the same people over and over with average results?
I get it. You're creating content every single day. You're spending hours preparing, publishing, getting it out there. Maybe you're even running ads to get new eyeballs. You're doing all the right things.
But today I want to share three powerful strategies that will help you expand your reach and get in front of new audiences – without expensive or time-consuming systems.
Why this matters:
These aren't just audience expansion tactics. These are authority-building, trust-building strategies. Unlike running ads to cold audiences (which is hard and costly), these methods will quickly establish you as the authority in your niche and create a transfer of trust that leads to clients who genuinely want to work with you.
Strategy #1: Podcast Guesting (This is THE one)
If you only do one thing from this episode, do this. Podcast guesting is huge, powerful, and can be completely free – whether you have your own podcast or not.
When you're a guest on someone else's podcast, you get 30-40 minutes to share your story and personality. People resonate with you, and because they already trust the host, that trust instantly transfers to you.
How to get booked (3 ways):
- Join Facebook podcast guest groups – share your bio and hosts will invite you
- Use PodMatch.com – It's like a dating service for podcasters (around $70/month, totally worth it if you're committed to booking at least one podcast per week)
- Cold pitch directly to podcasts (most time-consuming, some people pay VAs up to $300 per episode to do this, but I don't think you need to)
Pro tip: Don't just try to sell the whole time. Add value. Be personable. Share your story. That's what creates connection.
Bonus: Guest blogging works the same way – especially great if you're selling products or prefer writing to speaking.
Strategy #2: HARO (Help a Reporter Out)
Sign up at helpreporterout.com and you'll get daily (sometimes twice daily) lists of media outlets looking for experts to contribute pieces in your niche.
Whether you're in finance, business, health and wellness, women's health – whatever your field – contribute once or twice a month and you'll be leveraging massive audiences.
The power: Many of these publications syndicate their content to 20+ other outlets. Your article doesn't just get a little reach – it gets massive reach. You never know where it'll go, but showing up consistently is what matters.
Strategy #3: Host Workshops (Not Just Attend Them)
I'm going to be honest with you: I've been on quite a few of those big women's business summits and they haven't really been worth it. Often the summit host benefits more than the speakers – sometimes they even charge you to speak and then leverage YOUR audience more than they give back to you.
My recommendation: Team up with 2-3 other experts in complementary niches and HOST your own mini workshop.
Example: If you're a mineral balancing practitioner, partner with a mindset coach and a nutritionist. Your clients would benefit from all three, and you all get the benefit of leveraging each other's audiences.
Workshop tips:
- Make sure everyone has a reasonable email list and agrees to send out a certain number of promotional emails
- Use LinkedIn Events – you can invite up to 1,000 people for free and it goes directly to their inbox
- LinkedIn trick: Lots of people will click "going" but won't show up. Follow up in DMs with the registration link to increase your show-up ratio
The Bottom Line:
If you're so focused on creating content that you're not leveraging other people's audiences, you're missing a huge opportunity.
Pull back and ask yourself: How can I invest in one experience per week that puts me in front of someone else's audience?
Pour into other people, and you will be poured into.
These strategies build authority, create trust transfer, and get you in front of qualified audiences who are already primed to hear your message. Stop talking to the same people on social media and start expanding your reach strategically.
